it depends, if the engine is revving out on the limiter then you obviously have enough power to install a higher gear ratio in the final drive (I wonder if a 125 final drive will fit in the 50cc case?) if you want to do the job properly you could get it set up on a dyno Smile

ok, I reckon water is spraying up into the airbox, check the intake pipe into the airbox to see if it is easily accessed by road spray, if thats the case then that is probably your problem Smile

right now we're getting somewhere, it might have been jetted differently for the throttle restriction, what you could do is take the carb cap off (dont round the 2 screws) take the spring out, and then the needle with the little white plastic cap, now look at the needle, has it got a fixed washer or has it got 4 grooves and a clip and washer?

if there isnt a brass screw in the lid of the carb then there is no restriction. your mechanic could be referring to a throttle restriction which will be a screw to limit how far the throttle opens on the carb. check for a pink wire going into the CDI, dont cut it yet just incase it isnt doing the same job as you think it's doing. how many wires go to the CDI unit?

check the battery terminals are tight. look for any wet connections, if you lift the seat bucket out (4 10mm bolts) youll be faced with an engine, carburettor etc. the coil is a small black round thing bolted to the frame somewhere, usually on the right side of the frame, check the HT (big) lead isnt touching the frame anywhere between the coil and the spark plug cap. the LT (low tension) wires will plug into the back of the coil, make sure theyre plugged in properly.

it could be possible that the air filter is damp which wont help it start or run- is it associated with wet weather or does it happen every time you ride it?

the bike not starting on the button tells me that maybe the battery is on its way out. it could be the stator coils (a series of windings on the right side of the engine behind the fan which create the electronic pulse to the CDI unit- which in turn sends the LT signal to the coil) on its way out, it's a common problem on these scooters but we wont go into that yet.

ignore all that Icon_lol5 coming from a simular background to you, ive got a 1200 bandit and the fuel costs are a bit much Icon_lol5 ive had it set up on the dyno so running 127whp now, it was supposed to be my best bike but I use it every day Razz llexeter do a 180 bore kit which I'm looking into. regards to insurance- what do they know? after being in a few accidents now they see after market exhausts etc and they dont have a clue so I give up pleasing them Razz they rob me for 600 a year, why should I declare things they dont know about. its a scooter at the end of the day, it's not going to go much faster than 70 at a push Icon_lol5

hi peeps, getting annoyed with using my 1200 all the time, this is only speculation atm but there's a scooter I know of with a dodgy 125 motor in, I was thinking of getting it cheap and whacking in a 180 bore kit from llexeter- its around 50 and comes with cylinder, piston, rings gaskets and unusually a cylinder head! I was also thinking of putting a new crankshaft in, are there any better quality ones for a 125 engine or do I have to put up with the crankshaft dying every 10-15k miles?
ive noticed polini make a variator for the 50cc qma/b motors, do they make one for the 125 engines? I fitted one to my gilera runner 180 (before it died) and gained 5mph on average everywhere and the engine didnt have to rev as much, because the variator is lighter allowing to have heavier rollers Smile
ive got the head and carburettor from my runner in the garage too if thats any help Icon_lol5 I might use the carb in this puppy (if I get it) cheers
