My 50 cc roketa maui has a "winding" like sound when I open the throttle to full. Then it goes away as I reach near max speed. Any ide what it might be? I think itsin the belt case but thats a wild guess. I changed my engin and tran oil to synthetic so I doubt its thats. Just put a new spark plug. The old was black so I pulled the small black air flow inverter off inside the air filter cover for more air.

Thanks

Chris

You mean the CVT cover? The gasket on that is not essential at all. Matter of fact, you could take a knife and scrape that off and put the cover on with no gasket at all. Just make sure you get it all off so theres no major gaps. Do you realize how many gaskets those of us that play with our rollers would go thru??

Erg, grease in the case is not a good thing. The CVT thrives on things NOT slipping around. Grease on the belt or any of the squeeze plates will make for uneven power. Grease on the clutch pads will kill power.

I found a point where there was some belt-slapping on startup, and ground it down a little and smoothed it with a stone dremel. Beyond that, ignore the noise, it's doing what it's supposed to do.

For some reason, I've been in and out of my CVT a half-dozen times and have yet to tear the gasket. Mine seems to be made of tougher stuff than the tissue paper some people get. But yeah, if it rips, it rips. Someone used some sealant goop instead of a gasket, and I'm sure that's fine too.

Mine's straight metal to metal and I have yet to suffer any sort of consequence for it. The original gasket gets fused to the surfaces as heat builds up probably since day-1, ride-1.
The winey noise is nothing to be concerned with. It's just your scooter proclaiming aloud it's chinese heritage. Nothing to be bothered by. If it makes you feel better, double check your final drive fluid level and oil level make sure all is well there. 80w90 is what is recomended in the final drive, and 10w40 for the engine.
If they both check out, take along your Ipod or MP3 player and get back to enjoying the ride. Wink
