|

Short answer: a phone charger, modem/computer speaker transformer.
The only thing you have to keep in mind:
There is suppose to be a table on all of these devices saying INPUT and OUTPUT.
OUTPUT should say 12 V, and 1.5 to 5 amperes. Now just connect it to your home socket and your battery will charge.
The more amperes your device has, the faster your battery will charge.
Way to find out which wire is + and - :
I hope you already realized that in order to use this method, you have to cut off the end of your device.
Try starting your scoot with wires connected. If you hear a double click, then your wires should be switched.
Note that this method is only for charging, not starting assist. You won't be able to start your scoot instantly. It will take about 20 minutes for the battery to be able to handle the starter motor.
PRECAUTIONS:
If your battery is empty, you shouldn't charge it for more than 15 minutes. Example; charge it up for 10, take a break, then for 20, 30, and so on. Failure to comply may result in an explosion.

Great info
Had a universal adapter in the house, so can change voltage and amps.
Working like a dream.

I don't want to be a stooge here but you never want the battery to have more than 0.5 amps at near 13.6-13.8 volts. The original chinese battery in your scooter has very thin cell walls. It is made this way to reduce weight. If you put more than 0.5 amps on that chinese battery you will notice you have to charge it all the time because you have blown a cell or more. These batteries are very cheap and do not take large amounts of current(amps). What you say about more amps and charging faster is true but you do not want to do it with the original chinese battery....it is too much for it....it just can not handle it.
On this same topic...If you are going to jump the starter with a regular car battery you should unhook the scooter battery to get the bike started or you will blow a cell without a doubt and the battery will be permanently damaged. I was a Nuclear Electrician in the US Navy for 12 years and I know what I am telling you. It is the truth. Please post back to this forum when you have to purchase another battery so other members will know the truth about the high amp chargers.

In my particular case this wasnt on my new scooter (chinese).
But a good quality unit on my aprilia so seems to have done fine. And only did enough for a bit of juice, let the bike do the rest.
Thanx for info on poorer quality chinese batteries as I would have done the same thing as and when the time came.
