I would like to have a steel plug as I could magnetize it... that would be great... the magnets that I JBWelded in the plug work well...

Which is the correct way to check oil level?

When you just put back dipstick and look if the oil level is in the middle?
or
Put back and screw in the dipstick, and check if the oil level is in the middle?

checking the oil... all of the books I have read say to take the dip stick out,,, wipe it off,,, and then set it in till it hits the threads... the oil is ok if the level is half way between the cross marks... At the top of the cross marks,, it is full...

I would have to agree with you here Bodasefus, my manual also recommends this way. We have a mini-bike with a 110cc chink engine and that is also how we check the level on that.

Who do you trust? A Chinese manual or an authorised Piaggio mechanic? Wink
I went to get the oil changed on my Nexus on Saturday, it was done by BikePartsOnline who occasionally comes on here - after the job was done he screwed the dipstick in to check the level.

Here is the answer to the same question on the adrenalintrip forum mini-bike section:
Yes - You shouldn't screw any of the dip sticks in when checking the oil level mate.

Simply unscrew it clean it then "dip" the oil. Hence I assume it is called a "dip" stick not a "screw it all the way in" stick. Laughing

Maybe it's either:

fully up the thin part screwed in, or

halfway on thin part by hitting threads.

Icon_funky-dance

I stopped pouring when it was halfway and screwed in.

According to my Haynes Scooter Book, some levels are checked by resting the dipstick on the the threads and some by screwing it right in.

With all the Jap and Chinese bikes I've had the level is checked by resting the dipstick on the threads NOT screwing it in.

If the mechanic screwed the dipstick in, then I expect the Italian bikes are different.

Check your manual. Wink
