I have owned street and dirt motorcycles, but never a motor scooter. In learning about scooters before buying I can't seem to find any information about Wheel Size.

From you with experience is there some real differences in handling and safety between the 12 to 16 inch wheel sizes?

Thanks from Seattle

I have 10 inch wheels and I rip it up.

It's all about how much balls you have....

I have twelve inch wheels and prefer them to the 10 inch I have ridden on my friends scooter. Probably just psychological.

Fox, does a larger wheel give you more ground clearance?

Unknown. I think a larger wheel gives you a slightly higher top speed.

I have ridden 10" and 12" I prefer the 12 but like someone said part of it is probably psychological. I have not rode one with 16" wheels but I would imagine that bigger is better....gets the geometries closer to that of a motorcycle. Seems like it would ride and handle better.

I have had many bikes. Large wheels, small wheels and medium wheels and it doesn't make a difference to me. The bumps just seem harder with smaller wheels but that doesn't slow me down. Just go man!

Small wheels make a bike easier to change direction with, much more flickable. However, you notice the trade-off with stability at speed and ride comfort. However, you'd be hard pressed to notice the difference between 10" and 12" so just go for whatever bike makes your nads tingle and don't worry about the wheelsize!

Wouldn't bikes with smaller wheels have a taller final drive gear to compensate? Theres a 150cc retro here in town holds pace with me all the time and he's riding on 10's to my 12s.

My wife 150cc scoot has 12" wheels and mine has 10" wheels. My scoot will go just as fast as hers and mine has a little better ride to it. When I bought my scoot last month I was wanting one with 12" wheels but that model I wanted was out of stock so I settled for the SunL 150-26 that had 10" wheels. The distributor that I purchased it from told me that it is hard to tell the difference in ride between the 10 and 12 inch tires. He said it was when you get to the 16" tires that you can start to tell the difference.
