my engine mucked up when the ht lead come off the plug cap so ive sepnt most of today messing with my bike. it turns out that the tappets come loose and went walkabouts round the engine, and the rocker assembly cracked and died, swapped it with one that I had handy but the tappets are in the crankcase so I'm going to have to leave it like it is, it shouldnt do any damage as long as the crankshaft dosent pick it up and throw it into the cylinder. got it working again  I was getting 15mph on the way here and it seems t rev up higher now so tis going good.

You nut job!!!! You're leaving chunks of broken metal loose in the crank case, right by the CRANK, where they can get jolted and bounced around as you ride and will probably end up jamming the engine totally.

I can see your next post now...

"I was riding along and my engine just seized solid on me, I can't spin the engine at all, I can't even press down the kickstart."

I give it a week.

Mabe you can catch them with a magnetic drain plug. :?:

I could catch the tappets with a magnet but not the peice of alloy from the rocker assembly.

and jedi, I wont be on here asking why my engine seized because I know what it is if it does. I'm too poor to worry about it atm I need to find a job, if it does die then ive always got my reliable european bicycle  just joking, hopefully they will stay at the bottom of the crankcase, there is some clearance under the crank and I cant imagine the oil pump thrashing the oil about the engine too fast to lift a bolt round so I'll just sit tight til it does.

:o Russ Dude!! :?
Why did you leave the tappet inside the crankcase? Why did it have to stay in there? Trust me when I say, I know poor.
I'm so poor right now, I cannot pay attention! But I did manage to scrounge up $.85 (under couch cusions, and around drive-thru fast food joints,) for a quart of ND-30 motor oil the other week. Not the best stuff on the market, no, However, it's certainly better than leaving metal chunks in the oil valley and just hoping it don't get kicked up as I ride it anyways, Motor spinning up 8,000rpm

lol the only way of getting it out is to strip the side of the engine off which will cost me to get a new gasket and new oil.

RIP moped  it died about an hour ago. I knew the risks blah blah blah but oh well, I kept it on the road longer than expected, with 13960 odd km on the clock, I rekon thats a good age for a chinese moped, ive thrashed it most of its life going up 25% hills, doing about 60 miles every week day etc. I'm now parting it for spares, I cant offer the head, piston(non existant lol) or cylinder. the crankshaft may be ok. I got a carb, belt, clutch variator wheels, etc in good condition.

finally I wont break down anymore on my pushbike cus its a bit more simpler lol. you may think I'm an idiot but ive pulled through some hard times with this bike and learnt a hell of alot, I know more about engines and bikes than most people I know so I'm prepared for the next one(not coming apart unless it breaks)

You did OK with that scoot. You learned so much with the sacrifice of that scoot you should have named it the "Lab Rat". I hope you also learned that you became careless with the later repairs or it may have been good for a few more Km. No lecture here, just an observation.

13k is about the average for a scoot anyways. I've been told my mileage, 11910 is considered by many to be old age. so I'd dare say unless you drasticly overpaid, you got your moneys worth.
It was precondemed, and you still got another run out of it. I say you did alright.

13960km on a Chinese moped???

That has to be a record, that's gotta be around 98 in moped years - it nearly got a telegraph from the Queen!!!

Gutted it didn't go longer though dude, and I really do think if you'd had the money to replace the warped head and strip down the crank case to extract the shrapnel, you could probably have gone round the clock once more... but these are all what ifs, end of the day it went out with a bang not a whimper so fair play to you... and to your bike, RIP!!! :icon_thumbs_up: :icon_icon_clap:

hehe I finally got the pic on the computer (been busy)

good eh? I was quite impressed. I couldve saved it by spending £5 for a new gasket but I knew the risks. I'm glad it was a CVT engine and not geared otherwise it wouldve locked up wouldnt it?
more pics of the head soon.
