Guys, my drive belt just snapped after about 600miles.
I dont know how it happened.

But when I try to replace the belt, I can't get the variator nut off.

I do have an impact wrench, I matched the socket, and spin.

but the variator just spin with it.

I did the same as those video that I watched.

so, what m I missing ?

thank you very much !

I took mine off ok by immobilising the large toothed variator wheel at its rim with carefully padded (wood) vicegrip jaws and then applying the wrench. Just be carefull not to risk distorting the wheel.

The factory must have really put it on there tight. I un-did mine the first time by driving it to a local tire shop and using their impact. Those tire shops have huge compressors with like 180-200 psi. I changed my rollers and gave the guy $5.

Anyway if you can get it to a gas station or a tire shop maybe you can bribe the attendant a few dollars to loosen it for you. Change the belt right there, then use your impact to tighten it up.

Use the impact wrench in shorter bursts. As soon as the variator begins to turn, the impact loses it's impact.

If you have the sparkplug out by any chance, replace it. The compression stroke gives resistance from the variator turning too freely.

Make sure the wrench is set to turn counter clockwise. ( Don't want to overlook anything)

Yeah! I meant to tell him to put his free hand on the variator to keep it from turning.

Lefty loosey...

Man... I tried to hold it with my free hand, the hold thing just wont turn.

Is that mean my impact wrench is too weak ?

Your air impact wrench is probably too weak. I had the same problem until I bought an electric impact wrench. The nut came off in about a second. The electric wrench has a different type of impact that makes it ideal for the variator nut.

Jshooter have you tried this method? If you can do it like this you don't have to removed the variator.

Yeah that will work if he's got a 125/150cc.

I finally bought another better impact wrench. and did it.

I also found out my rollers are not in the right position, that why I couldn't use the method with bare hand.

Now everything is back to normal and I learned many things from this snapped.

Thank you so much ~!!
