My son's friend just bought a new scooter off ebay its a 4-stroke 49cc moto bravo and just turned over 300km. He did change the oil on it but now the bike kind of smokes a bit when it idles and takes off any ideas?
I think its a little early to be smoking for a new engine. |

Is it a two stroke?
I know you said he changed the oil but he might have just done the gearbox. |

| On that four stroke he might have added a little too much oil. Pull out the dipstick and take a look. These scoots take less than a liter so its easy to overfill. |

Place the scoot on the center stand on a flat surface and check the oil. I am sure he overfilled the oil. Drain some out and he should be good. It is only supposed to take between 850 and 1000 ml. One quart is 946 ml for your reference. Be sure to check the Positive Crank Vent that comes from the top of the engine and goes to the air filter box too as this may have lots of oil in it also.
Drain a little oil out of the crank case and verify the proper amount with the dipstick. Will smoke initially for a few minutes but should die down shortly after.
