Some shop pix I took when I changed my first spark plug out at the 300 mile mark. The dealer already put in a NGK C7HSA to replace the factory junk, but I stepped up to an NGK CR7HIX Iridium.

The point marked "Pinch!" in the engine view was just to note that you should look around for any fuel lines or electrical lines that might be routed badly. If I left this fuel line here, then the seat bucket would crush the hose when I remounted it.

Ummmm ...........
That 'factory junk' plug was an NGK dude. There wasn't anything wrong with it. I hope you saved it for a spare. :|

I think switching to an irridium is more of a step to the side. any gain in "performance" is all hype, and the cost of one plug is the same as several standard plugs.

Ummmmm, I think you need to read more closely or drop the attitude.

The dealer did a prep on the bike after it arrived in the USA. I never saw the factory plug which was probably not from Japan. The dealer put in a perfectly acceptable NGK from Japan. And yes, I'll save it as a spare.

Fox, as for performance, I expect they're both equal to the task. I doubt anyone was even bothered by RF noise from the non-R variety (shielded sufficiently by the head casing), but just in case, I prefer to go with the R variety for now.

Hey I got nothing against an iriidium plug per-se, I just think they are over-rated and over-priced.

I ran a non-resistor C7HSA with no ill effects in my scoot.

Whatever blows your skirt up!

Probably no noticeable gain in power or speed, but plenty of gain in other performance areas! Just switching from an standard NGK to iridium I noticed much quicker starts, and smoother idle, and barring any damage to it from a bad engine you could probably run it for the life of the machine. I used to use only platinum for longevity, but iridium is even better.

The only attitude in here is the one the above statment suggests. :|
My statment was based on the side by side photo.

Fixed your eyeroll smiley. ;)

There are only 2 advantages to using the more expensive iridium spark plug.

1) will last forever in any of our scoots (they last 100,000 miles in upscale cars).

2) they are capable of withstanding the higher voltage generated by a "performance" or "hi-volt" coils without the center electrode deteriorating away as in a standard sparker.

It's the type of maintenance item that is installed and then forgotten for as long as you own the vehicle.
