friend of mine sells scooters and atvs, two years ago we what looks like the qt-7 50cc, labeled as a Madami Puma.

right out of the box the starter motor would crank the engine but would not run. but I can kick start it and it will start on the first or second start, while it was still under warranty the supplier sent us a new startor. I changed it , but it didn't help.now the supplier is out of buisnes.

crazy thing is I can pullthe plug and while I use the electric start it will show nice blue spark.but you put the plug back in and nadda, no run.

so this thing set in the corner and got parts robbed off of it for other scooters that came in. this week I pulled it out and got back some parts and I made it run again. only kick start only(starter relay is gone)

so I think the replacement startor was bad as well. what do the experts on this board think? is the stators from partsforscooters.com of any quality? is there a high output stator avalable? it has the 5 wire stator where most are a 4 wire.

and is there a way to change the auto choke to a manual one? the electric plunger got robbed too . I have one off of a twostroke grafted into it, but the plunger needle still leaks past.

If a starter motor will crank the engine, there is nothing wrong with the starter.

It seems that the starter is not turning the engine fast enough under compression to get a spark. The faster the engine turns, the stronger the signal pulse from the pickup and for the CDI charge voltage.

So, give this a try. Get a new plug and connect it to the HT lead and check for spark but with the old plug still installed. If you still get a nice blue spark, then there is nothing wrong with the ignition system or starter and the scoot likely has tight valves.

If you don't get a spark in above, then there is a weak signal from the stator at the low rpm's that the starter can provide. If this is the case, I would suspect the pickup coil but it can be tested if need be.

Let us know what results you get from the above test.

A new auto choke should be available for a reasonable amount. When a person starts modifying a scooter that is nor running properly, it gets much harder to find the original problem.
