Battery dead

Yesterday while riding around battery on my scooter boiled up.
Unfortunately I noticed it only when stopped at red light and it was too late

It's really messed up, battery is warped, and worst part is all lights and fuel gauge is dead (main fuse is still OK). Engine was still running. Checked light bulbs with meter and they are fine, probably something else is out.

Now the biggest problem is to transport scoot to dealer (it's about 3km from my home) and unfortunately only way I can do it is to drive it there
:(

I know it's not the best idea and I would like to hear some suggestions what to do.
Thank you,

If you have to drive it to the dealer, dump out 1/2 the liquid in the battery. You should be able to start it with the kick starter.
Replace the battery with a new one and check all the fuses. Then check the voltage while the engine is running. One possibility is your regulator died and the generator is sending high voltage to the battery.

Hope it's not the regulators fault.

Will take it to dealer as soon as possible :)

Thank you for advice.

If the generator was sending out an unregulated overcharge, wouldn't all his light bulbs be blown too?
Make sure they test the generator and the regulator. If you need to, watch them do it. But I'm thinkin it's just a bad battery.
Sorry, but I have a very bad distrust for dealers, and their Barney Fife & Mongo mechanics in the service dept.

I know I am beating a dead horse here. How old is the scoot? How many
miles/km on the scoot? Is it the original battery? Is it under warranty?
Have you jumped the battery with a car battery or put it on a car charger
as these are NO-NO's for these small batteries. Sounds like the cells or a
single cell overheated and warped.

Can't you just remove the battery and kick start the scooter and then ride it to the dealer?

I can kick start mine with no battery.

I read somewhere that if you remove the battery and run the engine the energy created by the generator has no where to go cept to the lights and will burn them out. Thats why I said to drain out 1/2 half the liquid (so it wont boil over again).

All lights are out, so it doesn't matter anymore (just for now).
I'm afraid that if I will connect damaged battery it might damage generator ( cells in battery are damaged and may cause a short circuit).

It was a very sunny day so probably I didn't notice that lights were out and noticed that something is wrong when saw smoke and steam coming out of battery compartment.

Scooter is still under warranty.
It has 900 km on clock I bought it new 3 weeks ago. Battery is original and I haven't done anything with it :)

For now, I hope this will be covered by warranty.

Hell yeah. Take it back or at least call and see if it is still under warranty.
I would expect them to take care of that battery/electrical issue.
My chinese scooter only has a 6 month warranty on the motor only.
That is all they warranty for me on my Peace sports 50cc scoot.

you wont damage anything buy not having a battery in there, its different coil that charges to runs the spark/road lights anyway.
providing it will start you will loose indicators, brake light and dash.

you WILL do damage if the plates are damaged, causing an internal short in the battery, this will damage the regulator, and possibly the stator.

If you do remove the battery insulate the ends, a short will damage stuff.

forgot to add, there is sulphuric acid in the battery, and steam etc coming from it is highy corrosive, so do not breath it in, plus if thebattery has warmed, if it actually cracks, or worse explodes (it can happen) think of the damage it could do to you and your scoot.

Today received call from dealer.
As some of you said it was regulator's fault.

Now waiting for replacement part (2-3 weeks) :(

Lets hope that the replacement parts include a new battery as well as the regulator.
