Hi.

I'm wanting to pick up an 82cc (or 85cc) kit for my Wildfire 49cc 139QMB scoot. Here's the kit I'm looking at:

http://store.scootertronics.com/fostcykit825.html

A couple of questions though:

1) Is buying just the kit going to improve the performance noticably? I can afford the kit and professional installation, but if I have to buy a high performance exhaust (another $250) and other stuff, I can't afford it.

2) How much difference in performance would there be between an 82cc and 85cc kit?

3) What kind of speed improvement on a hill could I expect?

I'm wanting better speed on hills and better acceleration. A top speed boost would be ok, but not a big factor for me. Right now, I do about 20 mph on a hill and 35-40 mph on the level, depending on the wind.

Thanks & have a great day!
Gib :-)

Then you can't afford it.
Doubling the CCs while running the stock exhaust made for an engine 1/2 the size would be counter productive, It would be a wasted dollar and a wasted effort. Keep saving and get the complete job and save yourself the disapointment. Really.
The internal combustion engine is an air pump. It cant inhale anymore or less than it can exhale. The stock exhaust is already pretty restrictive for 49cc it would litteraly be a cork on a machine with twice the displacement. If you did get any gains in power, it would be minimal.

Ye, but still a 51mm cylinder will definitely increase performance, even with the stock exhaust.. I had one of those. :D

I do suggest changing the jet though..

Have you ever had a car with a clogged catalytic converter? Recall how it ran? That's about what your performance would be like.
You don't have to go all out with the $250-$300 pipe, but it has to at the very least be a straight thru flow. I can dig a little and find one for under $200.
I just hate to see that kinda money spent for so little gain. The pipe is only designed to flow 1/2 the exhaust that motor is gonna churn out. Not to mention the excessive heat that it's gonna be makin....

Thanks for the advice thus far.

The kit includes:

Cylinder
Piston
Rings
Wrist Pin
Larger Head
Gaskets
CD Manual GY6
EMGO Air Filter
Larger Jet

So the jet & air filter are taken care of.

Is this the exhaust I need, then?

Would it be possible to remove some of the baffling in the existing stock muffler to open the exhaust up?

Thanks,
Gib :-)

you can take the baffles out and put new ones in. probably cheaper that way if you can get it welded back.

I've done it for my homemade 150cc go-kart, so It should be the same: rip your muffler apart and make a homemade glasspack. They're pretty easy to do if you have some minimal tools. Can't remember where I got the material though, but just a thought. I think it cost me somewhere around 40 bucks american.

you could fit the kit yourself and save aload of money to get everything you need to tune it in. tbh it's alot easier to get a ready made 125 which is designed to go faster.

Yeah, I could get a 125 or 150, but I just bought this one last summer, so I hate to lose my shirt on the trade-in.

Plus, I'd have to get a motorcycle license for a 125 or 150 & have it insured as a motorcycle rather than a moped, which is probably more expensive.

I'll probably poke around & see if I can find a cheaper exhaust that's suitable or have the mechanic just widen up what's there.

Gibby - anything above 50cc / 31.5mph is a motorcycle anyway in the eyes of the law.

If you fit this kit and don't declare it, you're riding without insurance or a licence.

You'd need to do your CBT to ride it, plus add the huge expense of insuring a modified bike... so why not do your CBT, and trade in the 50 against a 125? Do things legally, it'll cost you a lot less in the long term.

what he said. its waay easier. once you start mucking with these engines it's hard to not keep touching it and then your panels will snap etc

I just like the idea of small bike beating cars.

yeah lol why dont you get a 125 scooter that goes faster than a heavily modded 50cc scooter?

In that case, take your full bike test and get an Italjet Dragster tuned by PSN, they can get 30bhp out of 210cc... a genuine 100mph on a twist and go, and it'll wheely all the way up to 50mph.

Or buy something like a Yamaha R6 or an R1, 180mph and reliable every day.

But don't try and tune up a cheap as chips Chinese 50cc bike to do it as it'll just break. Stan, you know this already!!!

Well, Hell.... All I really wanted was about 10 more mph up a hill. Didn't want to race the thing, just take it to work.

If I'm uninsured & all that stuff, screw it then. I'll probably just trade up for the 150 next year, if the price of gas doesn't drop. (Which is unlikely.)

I did find out the exhaust on my 49cc and the one for the 150cc version of my bike is exactly the same, by the way. Same price, same part number, & looks identical. So the kit by itself, should have been fine.

Ah well. :?
