Changed the oil today and had a major brain fart. When I put the filter and spring back in I put the filter inside of the spring and placed the filter rubber part next to the nut. I did not notice anything in the filter when I changed the oil and I am using synthetic oil.

Should I pull this out and put it in properly or will it be OK until the next change? I have 750 miles on a Jonway YY50QT-20. I realize I am not filtering the oil but given the fact I found nothing in the filter makes me think that nothing is floating around. Hate to waste a quart of synthetic oil but I guess I can drain the oil and put it back in once the filter is placed correctly.

You could always drain it then out it back in. I don't even think my bike has an oil filter so it can't be that bad? Its not even a filter really, just a thimble

This is strange!!
I didn't think it could be put in backwards. On mine, the screen had the rubber washer fastened on the open side of the screen and couldn't be put in like you say. It would only go in one way, that is with the screen closed end within the spring, therefore it could only be put in one way.

Anyway if you have it in yours backwards, drain the oil and put it in the correct way. It is the only protection the engine has. Strain the drain oil thru a coffee filter and put back in if you don't want to put in new oil.

Mine has the rubber on the open end of the screen also. I put the screen into the spring correctly but I put the spring in large end on the bottom.

Anyway, I went ahead and fixed it. It isn't worth taking the chance and I would have stayed awake all night worrying about it.

This is a perfect example of what happens when I work on something sober! After a couple of beers I am steady as a rock.

Take it out and put it back in right, then use the drain plug on the left side of the motor to drain/change the oil. (See Pics) I used to use the filter plug every oil change but after the 20th time not finding anything but oil in the strainer, I started using the other plug. Much easier.
