I found this small little blurb in our local newspaper today (Denver, Colorado)
=================================================

Title: PUTT-PUTT-PUTT

With the average price of a gallon of gas closing in on $4 a gallon, many cash-strapped motorists are turning to fuel-stingy motor scooters and smaller motorcycles.

24% increase in sales was seen on name-brand scooters in the first quarter of the year according to the Motorcycle Industry Council trade group -- noting that it's not exactly a hot sales period because of the cool weather.

--AP Story--

Wonder what they mean by "Name Brand" scooters? Do you think that includes the chinese scoots too? If not, that percentage could be really a lot more.

Scooter sales are up 385% over that of 2004 in NC. Most dealerships can't keep them in showrooms past a weekend. Thats Chinese, Taiwanese, Korean, Italian and Japanese brands all combined sold in dealer showrooms. That of corse doesn't count flea markets, pep boys, and mom & pop ATV stores that sell them like hotcakes.

And bail on their customers 2.8 seconds after the sale :lol:

Very true unfortunatly... But you buy at the flea market, you have to expect that. If I were slinging scooters up there, I'd be up front about it. I'd give customers this sites URL along with a list of parts dealers that don't cost an arm & leg for shipping. I'd do the best post-sale I can, but I know better than to make outlandish promises, impossible to keep.

One of my friends has been looking at scooters and motorcycles (since he saw mine) and said that he looked at the brand name dealerships and that they couldn't keep stuff in stock they were selling so many.
