Thought I'd post a review of the Hyosung Sense. I'll try not to make this a biased review since I bought mine used but with barely 400 miles on it and have had nothing but problems thus far. I think reviews are only really valid with comparable experience and I've been on many other bikes to compare with.
The good news with buying a Sense is that its....god I can't think of anything that sets it dramatically apart from any other scooter I've been on so for the sake of being informative lets just skip to the bad lol.
My sense came loaded with metal shavings in the pulley variator compartment due to a poorly designed kick start mechanisim. It seems to be just poor engineering as this mechanism rest closely with moving parts in the compartment and the slightest tough sends off a grinding noise with stated results. Derestricting the Sense is a bit aggrevating but a totally vital step since its stock speed of 30 mph is too slow. The only restriction I can find with ease is cutting the 6th wire from the CDI unit which is easy and adds 10 mph. There are no removable exhaust restrictions but clearly the exhaust has an extremely tiny output tip so replacing it with an expensive aftermarket pipe goes in my book as an important option but negative detail because of the high cost of replacement exhausts. There is no variator washer don't bother to look. The air intake isn't restrictive and access to the carb is incredibly difficult. I've worked on small engines for years and find that any instructions that say 'simply' when it comes to carb work/inspection are a living nightmare with the sense as a solid metal sheet encases the carb requiring special tools for removal. I'm sure other types of derestricting might yeild results but stop with the wire clip on the CDI unit and save your time and money for the not too distant repairs you'll be encountering. The Sense has a 2 point stand that retracts way too low to the ground and thus drags and rattles on even moderate cornering. The overall feel of the Sense is cheap and it seems to lack the smooth engine performance of other rides which were used bikes as well. Given the obvious difficulty getting parts (nearest dealer to my location is 175 miles!) and that the local scooter shops seem reluctant to work on this scooter I'd strongly suggest buying ANYTHING other than the Hyosung Sense unless you find a very good deal on a good running used one. Hope this helps good luck. |

A lot of us Hyosung riders get our parts and accessories from Richard at the address below. He is a very nice guy, his cheap and the parts arrive within 3-4 days.

| I feel the need to mention that I'm not making a review of Hyosung in general just this specific model. This model seems loaded with design flaws in addition to a large number of other things I didn't mention because its a 'used' scooter but probably shouldn't be going wrong so early (500 miles!). If someone else has a success story with their hyosung Sense I hope it continues and I stand corrected. |
