Okay everyone, we all know that streets and tires don't always get along very well, so I decided to do an experiment today.
I was cleaning the parking lot like I do each week with a 4' rolling magnet and I decided to go and check the street when I was done.
The street looked relatively clean and we just had a big rain come through, so I took my rolling magnet, and in between cars, I rolled across the street four times. That's a 16' strip of 2-lane road I covered.
Here is what the magnet picked up:
Keep in mind that while some of this LOOKS like dirt, it is not! These are all metal shards of some type!
Amazing huh?

I do this every week in my parking lot at work - the lot looks totally clean, but as I roll this magnet around, all you hear is clicking form the pick up.
It is possible that the streets where I am are worse than others, because it is in an industrial park, but I think I can do this just about anywhere with the same results.
I'm going to do the same portion of road again next week and see what I get. |

That's funny...
Well I probably should have included a pic of the street, so you can see it looks like any normal road, so here you go. As you can see, there isn't any noticeable difference from any other roadway:

| Its interesting the highways agency here are testing a truck that is fitted with huge magnets to clean the edges of freeways/motorways. They are just testing it on one small section but have been amazed by the amount of metal they have collected. Another good reason to make sure you always ride in the centre of the lane. |

Another interesting fact I left out is, there is a street sweeper that passes on this road about every two weeks. If I had to guess, I would say about 50,000 cars and trucks pass by each day on this particular road, so it is heavily traveled.
I think the magnet truck is a great idea!
