To clean the carb:

Get some carb spray cleaner from the auto parts, or you can just use some petrol and clean it in a cake pan. The spray is good for blasting out gunk from the small passages.

First remove the hose from the air filter box from the back of the carb.

Remove the fuel line

Remove the throttle cable by loosening the two nuts on the cable/throttle linkage on the carb with a wrench to slacken the cable and then work it out of the linkage.

Disconnect the choke electrical wire at the connector

Loosen the clamp on the intake elbow and remove the carb

Turn the carb upside-down and remove the bottom bowl. It will look like this:

The floats pivot on a little shaft that will just push out. This also holds the floats in place. Remove the shaft and float. Be careful the floats are fragile. Don't bend it! Pay special attention to the float needle and how it is installed before you remove the floats. VERY IMPORTANT! The float needle is what shuts off the fuel supply when the bowl fills up. it has a rubber tip on it. Make sure it's in good shape.

Now inspect the jets. Remove the Main jet and the spray nozzle and clean them and the hole they came from with the spray. If you have an air compressor, the high pressure air is great for clearing out the gunk.

Now clean every other hole you can see. Make sure every orifice is clear.

Re-assemble the carb the same way it was before you took it apart.

Now turn the carb back over and remove the top cover and remove the rubber diaphragm carefully and check it for cracks or holes by holding it up to a bright light. Be careful not to lose the little plastic piece and the needle. They are under the spring.

If the diaphragm looks good then re-install it being sure to not bend the needle and that the needle and the plastic piece are installed correctly. Sometimes the plastic piece won't go all the way down and you have to persuade it GENTLY with a small screwdriver. Then make sure the diaphragm is seated properly all the way around the top, and put the cover back on.

Re-install the carb and hook up the choke connector, fuel line, throttle cable, air filter. Make sure to adjust the throttle cable so it has just a tiny bit of slack in it when you twist the grip. The adjustment is done on the carb with the two nuts you loosened before. Tighten everything down, and start it up!

If you want to save your self some time remove the vacuum line from the intake elbow and suck on it like a straw for ten or twenty seconds to re-fill the carb. This will save you some cranking/kicking. Put the vacuum line back on and then start the engine. :)
