| Sun Mar 09, 2008 11:37 pm 5 easy peasy ways to go faster! |
|
|
1. tighten any slack off the throttle cable, acceleration will improve and the bike will be more responsive. this can help idling.
2. keep the tyre pressures up, about 30psi. acceleration will improve and fuel economy.
3. warm the engine up for a few minutes before riding. the bike will respond better for the start of the journey.
4. keep engine oil changed every 1000km(presuming you've already run your bike in) and keep it topped up.
5. check that the brakes aren't rubbing at all. this can slow you down especially up hills.
I took the slack off my throttle cable and got 5mph on my top end! mine was loose though so there may/may not be much of a difference. 45mph on the flat 8)
it won't cost you anything but it makes a hell of a difference! |

| I did the same to Bluebirds bike as the previous owner hadn't ever bothered and it made a hell of a difference to hers as well! |

| it seems that all the cheap mods go further than the expensive ones. the only mods that work are rollers. everything else that makes you go faster is free. it all starts with regular maintenance. |

You know Thruss, you are right on top of the heap now. You figured it all out! :) You are as experienced as anyone now. 8)
Here's what you learned:
It's a frickin' 50cc scoot! It's never going to scream down the road no matter what you do to it.. Treat it nice and it will run for a while. Treat it bad and it won't run for long....
That's it! Period! End of story.
I'll give you a K+ tomorrow cause I just K+'d JEDi. :) |

Spot on post, we did some tinkering at the weekend, changed the rollers and tighten up some slack on the throttle cable - which I had no idea was there untill we had the case off and could clearly see that the trhottel wasn't turning the whole way - had about an inch gap!
So again, would recommend people follow your advice. I am doing no more on the scoot now, just leaving it alone, leaving the derestriction and just enjoying what I have.
Have a K, for the sense. I hope people follow it, I know how it feels to have a slow scooter but as most people on here say...get used to it. I finally understand guys! :D

Ps, but don't tell the 50cc scooter that I have been drooling over the Honda 125's in the bike shop at the weekend and then spent over an hour looking at them and Chinese ones on the net! Bike-porn! Skyjet 125 maybe the next purchase...I didn't know that Honda did mini-me 125's of the sports bikes...doh! Oh a mini-me fireblade! |

Before you do anything with tyre pressures please check your hand book at the recommended pressure, over inflating your tyres will cause uneven wear and affect grip especially in the wet when you need it the most. |

| I wasnt completely sure of the correct tyre pressures but it's about 30psi. have a k back totty. I got results this morning for tightening the throttle cable! 50mph on the flat!!! 8) 8) :D not cool when your freeflow sucks up water and kills the bike 200yards from college  |

Most tubeless tires recommend 35-44psi. If it's not in the owners manual, check the sidewall of the tire. For what it's worth to anyone, I got mine set dead in between at 40psi. It gets me good mileage without being unsteady in turns and curvy roads.

| Does it matter if the throttle still manages to reach the stop? Cheers for this post, I just got a gift of a Honda vision and want to try these 5 before spending money. |

| yeah it's definately worth doing basic maintenance on your bike before you do mods. that way you can see what the mods are doing. |

Dude, I'm far from noob, but I did find this helpfull. I'm going out in a few to check my throttle cable and double check my tire (tyre) pressure, but I am topping out at 63 anyway (I have a moderately tuned 150cc). Thanks!
