I just bought a scooter, second-hand, that did not come with a title. In Texas, 49cc's and under doesn't have to be titled & registered, but you can't ride it on the streets that way. The original purchaser passed away, and the son didn't need it. I now want to get a title & plates. Our DOT office requires a Make & Model. It is a 2003 and says Terminator on the side. It is a 4-stroke and the engine is stamped LUOJIA. I have pretty well concluded that it is a QingQi, but can't find a QinqQi Terminator scooter in NADA listings. And that is ALL the lady at DOT will go by apparently. Any suggestions or does anyone know of a dealer who has been around since 2003 who might have some info? My previous scooter was stolen (sorry ba@#$%ds) and I really like this one better, but if I can't get it registered, I will have to go back to the drawing board.

Thanks for any info or light anybody can shed,

Karen

If tags title and registration is not necissary, why can't you ride it without? In NC, theres no insurance available for 50cc scoots therefore tags aren't either... But anyhoo...
Qingqi lists their bike like QM50T-??? the last depict the bodystyle series.
Mine is a QM150T-10V as an example. It'll take some hunting around but I'm pretty sure thats what the DMV would be after. Terminator was probably an add-on name by the seller to give the bike a less 'communist sounding' name. Totally meaningless to any government official. ;)

Does it look like this? I found these pics at the link provided. They are calling it a Roketa, but I don't think that's right.

Yellow - Unfortunately, Texas requires title & registration/plates if you want to ride on the street, which I do. Soooo, to the DOT I go.

Fox- yes, it looks almost exactly like the picture. A slightly older model, 2003, with a foot-brake pedal. Otherwise, they are simply different colors. After ALOT of looking, I'm coming to the conlcusion that Roketa & Lifan are now sister companies? somebody bought somebody or merged or something? Is it possible that the Terminator line was a Lifan production in 2003? the reason I ask is that American Lifan Ind is the only manufacturer of all these names I can find in the NADA listings. I'm willing to lie to the lady at the tax assessor's office - she doesn't know & doesn't seem to care - but this is what will be listed on the actual title.

Does any of this sound like it's possible or a reasonable conclusion to draw?

Again, any help is appreciated.
Thanks, Karen

It sounds reasonable to me. I'd say whatever I needed to in order to get the tag.

Just match up the nada name to the bike pic and have at it... It won't be long before all scoots will have to have all the requirements cars do. Especially when they see how many in this state buy scoots just to forgo the traditional expenses of personal transport. It is very possible to ride a scooter year round in this state so each scoot is taken thousands outta the government buget as people ride the roads for free. It's too big a break. It won't last.
