One main problem with these Chinese scooters is the exhaust, as soon as they come into contact with the elements they rust really quickly. :?
Here's a picture of mine after just seven weeks, keep in mind it's under a cover all night, in a shed at work and I've only been out once when it's been raining:

Not very pretty is it??? :cry: You've got two options:
1) Leave it alone and let it rust away but try picking up a replacement without any hassle and try getting one for under £40 or....
2) Get youself down to Halfords and buy a tin of Very High Temperature Engine Enamel Paint (Matt Black) for £5.99.

(It's located alongside all the spray paint, usually on the top shelf near the Hammerite).

The blurb on the tin say's:
Halford's Very High Temperature Paint is specially formulated to withstand temperatures of 650 degree's celsius. It provides a durable corrosion protecting matt finish to enhance the appearance of high temperature areas of engines. It's ideal for use on exhaust manifolds and many areas of air-cooled engines.

To prepare the exhaust for painting either use a wire brush or some wet & dry paper. I'll be honest and tell you I gave mine a quick scrub with some dry kitchen roll but it did the trick: :)

Once most of the dirt & rust has gone give the exhaust one coat of paint and leave for around 30 minutes before applying a second coat.
You should only need a couple of coats but feel free to do more.
And here's the end result: 8-)

Now doesn't that look a hell of a lot better than this plus at the same time you're protecting the exhaust against any further rust. :D

On Quingqi moped's, they already sell the scooter with protection.
I got QM50QT-6 .. no matter how much heat or rain, no rust. Had it since spring 2005. :wink:

You're damn lucky, even my old Peugeot scooters exhaust rusted after a few months. :roll:

So far so good with the Piaggio one, it's still nice & shiny. 8)

My friend bought a Peugeot Vivacity almost at the same time and it rusted up during the summer :lol:

Any paint that is zinc based works great as an undercoat prior to a top covering of any other high temp paint you want to apply. Just remember the preparation (a damn good cleaning with at least a wire brush) is essential.

Youve just given me a great idea, I have a friend who works in hot metal powder coating. They make display racks. I'm wondering how an exhaust pipe would stand up to being powder coated?

I was down at the powder coating factory today and sought out some info about powder coatings and it appears that the stuff they use is plastic.

Trouble is it melts when it gets hot so its a no go for exhausts. :(

oh well little tip dont use halfords high temp paint as it rusts after a few days and also loses the blackness

if that makes any sense

Did you sand the exhaust back to get rid of rust first ?

it worked okay on my 50cc

You cant rust proof the inside of a pipe anyway, thats where most of the rust occurs, due to the heat and condensation.
