Big thanks to Ally for this wherever he may be! :D
This walkthrough is for those moped owners who's fuel gauges have gone FUBAR
You'll need :
A can of WD40 or a can of TT
1 Flat headed Screwdriver
1 Pair of Long Nose Pliers
1) Remove the seat
2) With the Long nose Pliers Grasp the little grips on each side of the Fuel guage Retaining Clip and spin it round till it pops up
3) Carefully Lift out the Guage being careful not to bend it
4) Gently Scrape the bulk of the rust from the gauge then give it a spray of WD40 repeat this untill it moves freely
5) Reinsert the Guage into the tank taking care to make sure the clips meet up
Any constructive critiscism is welcomed
ally :P |

Just wanted to add one comment to this, as I thought I had the same problem with mine as it hasn't worked from new. Turned out that the sender had been fitted backwards, so the float couldn't rise as it was touching the side of the tank! Rotated it 180° and job's a good un.
many thanks for the tutorial though, much appreciated :D |

Had to mine today , because the gauge had jammed in the "full" position.
On the retro bikes the fuel tank is under the floorboards, necessitating pulling all the panels to bits :x
Here's the gauge. The arm is curved to reach up into the ridge which runs along the top of the tank. No obvious rust, but with a bit of 3-in-1 spray and a bit of working to and fro, it seemed fine.

Bad connection or a bad sender unit then. It could also be a dodgy gauge in the speedo, but I've never heard of one of these going wrong. |

Hmm...
If I can dig down that far, I'll give that a go next time I got a day.
On the floorboard tanks, would that thingy be on the top or bottom? Mine says it's only 1/2 full regardless if it's filled top the top. Done that since new :( |

I can only guess that when the tank's full, the float arm becomes stuck up in the raised position. When you've used 1/2 a tank, the natural sloshing around of the fuel hammers it back down to the 1/2 full position, and it's freer in the second half of its travel. At least you know when you're about to run out, but keep an eye on it incase it sticks permanently.
PS. Why Do Some People Put Capitals At The Beginning Of Every Word? It Really Slows Down Your Typing  |

If you use a Peugeot engine, you'll need parts twice a day!
To be honest, it really isnt worth the effort, unless you're doing it for the fun of it. |
